Overcoming the Dental Braces Phobia!

For weeks, I kept feeling something behind my lower teeth with my tongue; I'll look into the mirror and even flash light on the spot just to discover nothing. I finally decided to pay a visit to a dentist and get my teeth cleaned.

Just when I was looking online for a nearby dentist with good reviews, I thought of how badly my teeth are aligned and why I never got them fixed. This problem occurred as none of my milk teeth would come out naturally and each one of them demanded a visit to the dentist to be removed. My milk teeth would stay in my mouth even after the permanent teeth have started growing leading to misalignment of these new teeth!

My mouth full of permanent teeth became a pretty unpleasant sight even for myself. That was when I went to an orthodontist. Orthodontist is basically a dentist that mainly deals with fixing bad looking teeth. I was told that four of my teeth, two from the upper side and two from the lower side would be removed. Getting rid of four teeth from my mouth was a big enough fear to forget about fixing them. I cannot let my natural teeth pulled from my mouth intentionally. I chose to live with a closed mouth in public for the rest of my life instead of getting the treatment.

Fast forward all the way to my job after graduation. Every week there will be some celebration in the office and people all around me would flash their teeth and take pictures. I would give a dim smile making sure no one is able to look inside my mouth. Finally, I decided to get them fixed and went to an orthodontist again. Years have passed, city and clinic have changed but the procedure remained the same. Four of my teeth will be gone. After all the requirements for the treatment were done, I gave up at the final moment when my teeth were to be removed.

Two more years later which is just 2 weeks back when I was feeling something behind my lower teeth and wanted to get it cleaned. I decided to end my oral problems and go to an orthodontist instead and get them fixed. Not a great idea when you are 24 and thinking of getting braces but now it's about oral hygiene. But history had to repeat itself and I was going to abandon the procedure one more time purely out of the inconvenience if my orthodontist hasn't told me the following: When I rest my mouth, my lower teeth come in front of my upper teeth which needs to be fixed ASAP and I'll have braces without tooth extraction with guaranteed no extraction of the upper teeth. The issue is that my upper teeth are pushing my lower teeth from behind changing the position of teeth further and weakening them. Also, my jaw needs to be pushed outwards, so I'll need my teeth in the space that will be created in this operation.

So, here I am sitting with braces in my mouth which I easily got used to in 2 weeks. I guess I was supposed not to lose my precious teeth.
